For the past year, Romain has been looking after the forge at the Slate Museum. In spring, he renewed the fireplaces, restored tools and took various safety measures.

The Slate Museum and the Frënn vun der Lee are happy that Romain Reisdorfer, together with his blacksmith colleagues, regularly lit the fire in the forge of the Slate Museum. Last year alone, Romain and his colleagues Jamper, John, Jang, Olli and Wim gave demonstrations on 15 days. In total, they were present for 169 hours in 2024. The blacksmith is always a highlight to the visitors and the Slate Museum is in great demand for blacksmithing courses, such as the one Jhang Bichel ran until 2019.

Together with Romain, the Slate Museum has already drawn up a plan for 2025 for the days on which the forge will be in use. In addition, our blacksmiths can come and forge as often as they like. Romain will also be offering two-day blacksmithing courses for beginners in 2025.

The course program includes:

  • Introduction and safety rules

  • How a coal forge works

  • Making simple objects/learning basic techniques

Following things need to be provided by the participants themselves:

  • Safety shoes

  • Leather work gloves

  • Safety glasses

  • Ear plugs

  • Picnic (for the lunch break) - drinks are provided

The price per blacksmith course is at 260€ per person.

There is space for a maximum of 4 participants.

The courses are in luxembourgish.
